Various Road Improvements Underway

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department announced a list of road improvements on Tuesday (April 22).

Benton County

The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid to resurface 3.5 miles of Highway 71B in Rogers. The work will extend north from Pleasant Grove to West Walnut Street, according to a news release from the AHTD.

AAPAC-Central, Inc. of Fayetteville was awarded the contract at $972,170.57.

Garrett’s Blog: Severe Weather Risk Increasing

The Spring severe weather season has been off to a slow start with the safest start to tornado season in 100 years.

Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported and the overall risk from tornadoes has been confined to isolated areas or brief spinups.

The weather pattern over the weekend will take on a more classic spring pattern that favors severe weather and rotating thunderstorms as well as tornadoes.

Police: ‘Nonspecific’ Threat Found At Oakdale Middle School

A nonspecific threat was found at the Oakdale Middle School.

The threat was found on a bathroom wall, according to Officer Keith Foster with the Rogers Police Department.

He said there was no immediate danger. The school did not evacuate as a result.

Country Artist Dierks Bentley Coming To Walmart AMP

Country artist Dierks Bentley will be coming to the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion.

He will come to Northwest Arkansas as part of LPGA week.

Bentley will be at the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion on Saturday (June 28). Tickets for the concert will be $8 (with a limit of four per person), according to a news release Monday (April 21).

Parking will be free, and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit local charities.

Rogers Fire Department Gets New Fire Engine

The Rogers Fire Department recently got a new engine and put it into service.

The department tweeted, “New Engine 7 was placed into service today at its home at 3400 South 1st Street.”

The fire engine is the second new truck to be placed into service in April, 2014.

On the fire department’s Facebook page, a post read, “Thank you to the citizens of Rogers for supporting public safety through the 2011 sales tax extension.”

Arkansas Unemployment Drops Below 7 Percent

Arkansas unemployment has dropped below 7 percent.

The level is now at 6.9 percent, according to the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services website.

The website currently shows that the national unemployment rate is 6.7 percent.
