The weather is warming up and locally grown produce is finally arriving at the Bentonville Farmers Market.

Several events, including Dog Days on Saturday, May 18, are planned for the season. Kelly Kemp gets an update in this EyeOpener segment.

Truck Accidentally Scatters Chicken on Rogers Street

A chicken truck lost its load in front of Rockwell Farms Nursery in Rogers Tuesday morning (May 7).

For several blocks a George’s Chicken truck scattered live and dead chickens on Hudson Road. Police reports say several people stopped and helped get the chickens safely out of the road. Arkansas Game and Fish officers stopped the truck driver and told him he was losing part of his load.

The company sent crews out to clean up the mess.  Luckily the spill didn’t cause any accidents, according to Rogers Officer Keith Foster.

 

ER Kids Fair & Health Expo, May 4

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital (SSRH) will host its first ER Kids Fair & Health Expo for the whole family from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 on the hospital grounds – 603 N. Progress Ave.

“Saturday’s fair and health expo will have vendors and screenings for both children and adults,” said SSRH Marketing and Business Development Director Cathy Davis. “This year, we really wanted to have an event that catered to the whole family. And when CEO Kevin Clement mentioned an ER kids fair – it was a perfect fit.”

Rogers Burger Joint Contemplates Liquor License

The owner of the Susie Q. Malt Shop property in Rogers has applied for a packaged liquor license, according to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC).

Some customers are concerned this business, considered a staple, might be replaced by a liquor store if approved.

Its application to the ABC is part of a lottery. State liquor authorities will only issue 55 liquor licenses in Benton County and its received hundreds of applications.

37th Annual Bentonville Farmers Market Season Opens on Saturday

The Bentonville Farmers Market opens its 37th season on the downtown Square on Saturday, April 27th from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm.  This producer only market includes over 60 vendors offering vegetables, fruit, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, eggs, cow cheese, goat cheese, organic produce, baked goods, gluten free baked goods and various high quality craft items.  Those vendors will set up around the Square and on both sides of NE 2nd Street.  Produced by Downtown Bentonville, Inc.

Give blood in honor of World Red Cross Day

May 8 is World Red Cross Day, and the American Red Cross encourages eligible individuals to celebrate by donating lifesaving blood in their communities. The need is constant, and all blood types are needed, especially O negative, B negative and A negative.
