NWACC Recognizes Rising Scholars

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (May 31, 2012) – NorthWest Arkansas Community College recently recognized 96 high school students who have excelled in concurrent classes as Rising Scholars.

Students can take NWACC classes on the NWACC campus, through the Early College Experience, high school-based concurrent enrollment program, or through NTI Secondary Career Center.  To receive the award, graduating seniors must be enrolled in or have completed at least 12 college credit hours and maintain a 3.0 or higher NWACC grade point average.

Bentonville Schools Summer Meal Program

Kids, ages 18 and younger, can get free meals this summer at no cost thanks to Bentonville Public Schools. Meals will be offered May 29- Aug. 1.

Meals & Times:
Breakfast, 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m.
Lunch, 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Meals served Monday through Friday

Bentonville Teen Reported Missing

Bentonville Teen Reported Missing

Bentonville Public Schools and the Bella Vista Police Department are trying to locate Lexie Verdejo, an 8th grader at Lincoln Jr. High.
 
According to a post on the Bentonville Public Schools’ Facebook page, Verdejo, 14, was reported as a missing runaway on Monday. She was last seen in the Bentonville and Centerton areas.

Verdejo is approximately 5’1” and weighs 120lbs. She has black hair with red highlights and brown eyes.

NWACC Receives Upward Bound Grant

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (May 16, 2012) – NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s Upward Bound program has been selected to receive a grant for $250,000 for the budget period beginning Sept. 1, 2012, and ending Aug. 31, 2013, Congressman Steve Womack, Sen. John Boozman and Sen. Mark Pryor announced.  It is anticipated that the grant will be awarded for five years, totaling $1.25 million.

This grant ensures the continued success of the program and expands the number of students served from 52 to 55.

Bentonville Adminstrator Named "Arkansas Master Principal"

Bentonville Adminstrator Named "Arkansas Master Principal"

Monday in Little Rock, Elm Tree Principal, Tanya Sharp was named Arkansas Master Principal. She is now of one of only 21 principals in the state of Arkansas to receive this distinguished award.  The award was presented by State Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell and the State Board of Education. There were only four principals in the state chosen for this distinction for the 2011-2012 year.

NWACC Commencement Slated For May 10

NorthWest Arkansas Community College will hold commencement ceremonies Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. at the John Q. Hammons Center.

The college will graduate more than 1,200 students in the spring ceremony.

Alex Vasquez will give this year’s commencement address.

Vasquez has served as chairman of the NWACC Board of Trustees since January 2010. He has been with Walmart Stores, Inc., since 2003 and serves as an Associate General Counsel for Corporate Affairs, advising the company on matters involving public affairs and government relations.
